Latvia: visa decisions in China
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 812 | 754 | 52 | 6.4% | 33.2% |
| 2024 | 646 | 531 | 20 | 3.1% | 24.1% |
| 2025 | 623 | 588 | 29 | 4.1% | 23.5% |
In 2025, Latvia’s embassy and consulates in China (Beijing) received 623 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 588. The refusal rate was 4.1%. That is barely different from 2024 (3.1%). Applications fell by 4% compared with 2024 (646).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.0% of the applications lodged in China that year, from 1.3% at the consulates of Luxembourg to 19.3% at those of Malta. Latvia’s consulates worldwide refused 12.3%. Latvia was the 27th most applied-for Schengen state in China.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in China, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
