Estonia: visa decisions in China

2024 857804505.9% 18.9%
2025 7166179913.8% 22.9%

In 2025, Estonia’s embassy and consulates in China (Beijing) received 716 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 617. The refusal rate was 13.8%. The refusal rate rose by 8.0 points from 5.9% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 16% compared with 2024 (857).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.0% of the applications lodged in China that year, from 1.3% at the consulates of Luxembourg to 19.3% at those of Malta. Estonia’s consulates worldwide refused 24.6%. Estonia was the 26th most applied-for Schengen state in China.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in China, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
