Türkiye e-Visa: online visa for tourism and business trips
Türkiye e-Visa (electronic visa, evisa.gov.tr)
In short
The Türkiye e-Visa is an online visa for nationals who are eligible for it and travel for tourism or commerce. It is issued on evisa.gov.tr, the only official portal, after an online form and card payment in US dollars. It does not allow work or study, and like every Turkish visa it never permits more than 90 days in any 180-day period.

Key facts

- Validity
- Set per nationality; the validity of the e-Visa differs from the permitted length of stay.
- Work
- No. Tourism and commerce only.

- Each traveller needs an own e-Visa; tour operators can apply for group e-Visas.
- Where to apply
- Online at evisa.gov.tr before travel.
Who can use the e-Visa
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the e-Visa on 17 April 2013. Whether you qualify depends on your passport: some nationalities receive it without conditions, others only under extra conditions, and some cannot use it at all and must apply at a Turkish mission. Nationals of visa-exempt countries do not need it for stays covered by their exemption.
The e-Visa is valid only when the trip is for tourism or commerce. Work, study, journalism, archaeological research or filming require a sticker visa or special permission obtained before travel.
Conditional e-Visas
For several nationalities the e-Visa is conditional. Holders of ordinary passports from countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Iraq can obtain a single-entry e-Visa valid for one month only if they hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit and meet the other conditions shown on the portal.
Age rules apply to some countries. Egyptian nationals under 15 or over 45, for example, can get an e-Visa without the extra condition, while those aged 15 to 45 need one of the qualifying visas or residence permits and must fly with one of the airlines named by the Ministry.
Fee and payment
The fee is not the same for everyone: the portal shows it after you choose your nationality, and it is charged in US dollars, then converted by your bank. Visa and Mastercard are accepted. The Ministry states that e-Visa fees are lower than fees for visas obtained on arrival at Turkish airports where that option still exists. Fees are not refunded if a visa is refused.
Applying on evisa.gov.tr
The application takes a few minutes and is available around the clock. You enter identity and passport data and the planned travel date, pay online and download the e-Visa. Only evisa.gov.tr is official; the Ministry does not use intermediary websites. Since 2016 the visa.gov.tr pre-application system redirects eligible sticker-visa applicants straight to the e-Visa portal.
- Open evisa.gov.tr and select your country of travel document and travel date.
- Read the conditions shown for your nationality; if no e-Visa is offered, use the visa.gov.tr pre-application for a sticker visa.
- Enter personal and passport data exactly as in the passport.
- Pay the fee shown in US dollars by card.
- Download the e-Visa and keep a printed or digital copy for the border check.
- Leave before the permitted stay ends or apply for a residence permit in time.
Entry checks and limits
An e-Visa does not guarantee entry. Border police can refuse admission to passengers whose passport is not valid for 60 days beyond the permitted stay, who lack a valid visa or who fall under an entry ban. Stays above 90 days in 180 require a residence permit applied for in Türkiye before the visa period ends.

Frequently asked questions
Can I extend an e-Visa inside Türkiye?
No visa extension is available. If you need to stay longer than the visa allows, apply for a short-term residence permit through e-İkamet before the permitted stay ends.
Does the e-Visa fee depend on nationality?
Yes. The portal shows the fee after you select your nationality, and payment is always in US dollars.
Can I study a short Turkish course on an e-Visa?
No. The Ministry lists Turkish language courses under the student and education visa category, which is obtained at a Turkish mission.
Is a hotel booking always required?
Not for every nationality. Extra documents such as a return ticket or hotel booking are part of the conditions only for some passports, and the portal lists them.
