Who needs a student permit

The Immigration Division states that all foreign nationals, except residents of Trinidad and Tobago, require student permits for the full duration of their studies. Foreign nationals who are registered, full-time students of the University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus do not require student permits.

The Division also advises checking whether your nationality needs an entry visa. Students whose country is not on the list of visa-exempt countries need an eVisa to enter in addition to the student permit.

Checklist and supporting documents

Prepare a valid email address, a passport valid for at least one year, a digital passport-sized photo in JPG, supporting documents in PDF and a Visa or Mastercard card. Supporting documents include the passport bio-data page, the birth certificate, the acceptance letter of the institution (or the Ministry of Education package for public primary and secondary schools), the parents' or guardians' passport pages and immigration status and any custody document for minors, a landing deposit, security bond or valid return ticket, a copy of the entry or extension stamp, a financial statement, a rent receipt or rental agreement or accommodation letter, and academic transcripts.
