Investment threshold
BOCA refers to the Regulations on the Operation of Foreign Investors or Representatives of Foreign Corporations Applying for Resident Visas, which require a minimum investment of US$200,000. The investment must be evidenced by a document issued by a competent authority of the central government of Taiwan; the investment approval itself is handled by the economic authorities before the visa application.
Documents
The application consists of the barcoded online form, signed, two colour photos (45 x 35 mm, white background) pasted on the form, the passport valid for at least six months with a copy of the bio-page, and the original and a copy of the proof of investment. Other documents may be requested case by case; applicants in Taiwan add copies of their visitor visa and entry stamp.

Applying abroad or in Taiwan
Applicants outside Taiwan apply at a Taiwan mission. Those who entered on a visitor visa annotated "A" can apply in Taiwan at BOCA or its Central, Southwestern, Southern or Eastern Taiwan offices eight working days before their stay ends; processing takes eight working days and missing documents must be supplied within seven days. Visa-exempt and landing-visa entrants, and blue-collar workers already in Taiwan, cannot apply on investment grounds.
- Make and register the investment with the competent Taiwanese authority.
- Obtain the official proof of investment.
- Complete the online visa form and apply at a Taiwan mission, or at BOCA if you hold an "A" visitor visa.
- Pay the resident visa fee and collect the visa.
- Apply for the ARC and re-entry permit within 30 days.
ARC
Resident visas are valid for three months. Within 30 days of the day after arrival (or of the issue date, if the visa was granted inside Taiwan) you must apply at an NIA service centre for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and re-entry permit; your permitted stay is the validity of the ARC.
Frequently asked questions
How much must I invest for a Taiwan investor visa?
At least US$200,000, evidenced by a document from a competent central government authority.
Is this a golden visa with a direct path to permanent residency?
No special shortcut is published; investors follow the general permanent residency rules, including five years of residence with at least 183 days a year.
Can I apply after entering visa-free?
No. Visa-exempt and landing-visa entrants cannot apply for a resident visa on investment grounds.
Can I apply from abroad?
Yes, at the Taiwan overseas mission responsible for your place of residence, with the proof of investment issued in Taiwan.
Can my family join me?
Family members need their own visas; BOCA's investment visa page does not set out a dependant category, so ask the mission which visa applies.
