In short

Taiwan's eVisa is an electronic, single-entry visa issued online to nationals of a short list of about 20 countries, some with passport-type or prior-visa conditions. It is valid for three months from issue and allows one stay of up to 30 days for tourism, business, visiting relatives, international conferences or sporting events; it cannot be extended or converted.

Who can apply

BOCA lists Armenia, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Dominica, Ecuador, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Mauritius, Montenegro, Oman, Panama, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan as eVisa countries. Several carry conditions: for Türkiye only ordinary and special passports are eligible, and BOCA says eligibility is adjusted according to bilateral agreements and reciprocity; Colombians, and until 31 March 2027 Armenians, Kazakhs and Uzbeks, must also hold a valid Schengen visa or residence permit or a US visa or residence card valid for more than 180 days.

Nationals of any country invited by a Taiwan central government agency, or to an international conference or event organised or sponsored by one, may also receive an eVisa when the agency requests an Ecode from BOCA. The passport must be an ordinary, official or diplomatic passport valid for at least six months on the application date; emergency and temporary passports are excluded.

Allowed purposes and limits

The eVisa covers tourism, business, visiting relatives, and attending international conferences or sporting events. It is valid for three months from the issue date, allows a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days, and cannot be extended or converted into another visa in Taiwan. Multiple-entry eVisas are not issued. Employment, study, joining family or Mandarin courses require the corresponding visa from a Taiwan mission.

How the online application works

Applications are individual: the system does not accept family or group applications, and each traveller, including a child listed in a parent's passport, needs a separate eVisa. Payment is by MasterCard, Visa or JCB credit card only; another person may pay with their own card if they carry out the payment themselves. Depending on nationality and purpose, the reviewing mission may e-mail a request for additional documents with a deadline; missing that deadline can lead to refusal. Payments are not refunded if the application is refused or the eVisa is not used.

  1. Confirm that your nationality and passport type are eligible on the BOCA eVisa information page.
  2. Open the eVisa Application on visawebapp.boca.gov.tw and complete the form for one traveller.
  3. Pay the fee online by MasterCard, Visa or JCB; keep the confirmation.
  4. Apply at least seven days before travel and answer any e-mail request for extra documents before the deadline.
  5. Download and print the eVisa from the approval e-mail; check every detail against your passport.
  6. Complete the online arrival card and present the printed eVisa on arrival.

Travelling with the eVisa

When the application is approved you receive an e-mail with a link to download the eVisa. Print it and show the paper copy at the immigration checkpoint, where the National Immigration Agency verifies it; officers may still refuse entry. You may enter on any day within the validity period. Make sure the details match your passport exactly, because an eVisa with mismatched data cannot be used. Complete the online arrival card within seven days before arrival.
