Who is eligible

Only nationals of the countries on BOCA's visa-exemption list can apply, for example citizens of EU member states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Korea. Nationals of other countries cannot use this visa and would need another category such as the Employment Gold Card.

Income and remote-work evidence

Applicants show remote work experience with a résumé or portfolio, a valid work contract (employees) or contracts for current projects (freelancers) and the Description of Intended Activities form. They must also meet one condition: a digital nomad visa issued by another country; or, for those aged 30 and over, annual earnings of at least US$40,000 in one of the last two years; or, for those aged 20 to 29, at least US$20,000. Earnings are proven with a tax certificate such as a P60 or W-2, or an employer salary certificate.

Bank balance and insurance

Bank statements for the last six months must show an average balance of at least US$10,000 or its equivalent each month. Applicants also need international health and full hospitalisation insurance for the entire stay stated in the activity plan.

Review by the National Development Council

Applications lodged at a Taiwan mission are forwarded to the National Development Council (NDC), which reviews the applicant's qualifications and returns the result to the mission for the visa decision. Applicants already in Taiwan visa-free or on a non-extendable visitor visa apply to BOCA or MOFA's regional offices ten working days before their stay expires; if refused they must leave before their stay ends. Requested additional documents must be supplied within three working days, and an interview may be required.

  1. Confirm that your nationality is on BOCA's visa-exemption list.
  2. Download the Description of Intended Activities form and describe your planned stay and work.
  3. Collect income, bank and insurance evidence.
  4. Complete the online visa form and apply at a Taiwan mission, or at BOCA ten working days before your stay ends if you are in Taiwan.
  5. Wait for the NDC review and answer document requests within three working days.
