Who can be transferred

The permit is for a manager, specialist or employee trainee who is transferred to a host company in Slovenia that belongs to the same group as the employer. You must have worked for the group for at least nine months when the first transfer comes from a country outside the EU, and you will carry out work linked to management, organisation or supervision at the host entity, or train there.

Besides a passport valid at least three months longer than the planned stay, health insurance and a criminal record certificate, you show that the host belongs to the linked group and submit the employment contract and the transfer document. The Employment Service of Slovenia gives its consent to the transfer during the procedure.

Procedure

If you are not in Slovenia, lodge the application at a Slovenian embassy or consulate abroad; if you are, at any administrative unit. The host company can also lodge it, but only at the administrative unit competent for its registered seat. Fingerprints are taken on submission or later. The administrative unit obtains the Employment Service’s consent, decides, and you collect the card in person. Once you hold the card and are in Slovenia, register your exact address at the administrative unit within eight days.

Holders of an intra-corporate transferee permit issued by another EU state follow separate short-term and long-term mobility rules when they come to work in Slovenia.

  1. The group prepares the transfer document and the contract.
  2. Gather proof of the group link and nine months of employment.
  3. Lodge the application at the embassy, or the host company lodges it at its local administrative unit.
  4. Give fingerprints; the unit obtains the Employment Service’s consent.
  5. Collect the card in person and travel.
  6. Register your address within eight days and extend in time.

Extension and limits

The permit is extended under the same conditions on which it was issued, for the transfer period in the contract and transfer document. Apply in good time, before it expires. For managers and specialists the total stay may not exceed three years; for trainees it may not exceed one year. Time spent on this permit is not counted towards the five years required for permanent residence.

Family members

Intra-corporate transferees are among the groups that can reunite their family without first living in Slovenia for a year. Family members obtain a temporary residence permit linked to the transferee’s permit, and adult family members do not need to show Slovenian language skills when it is extended.
