St Kitts and Nevis eTA: fee, validity and how to apply

Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)

In short

Every foreign visitor to St Kitts and Nevis, including children and infants, must hold an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation before the journey starts. It is applied for only on the government portal knatravelform.kn or the official e-Border app, costs USD 17 per traveller plus payment fees, is usually processed within 24 hours and is valid for one entry within 90 days of issue.

Apply on Saint Kitts and Nevis Electronic Border Management System (eTA and ED Form) checked 24 October 2026

Key facts

Maximum stay
Not fixed by the eTA: the immigration officer at the port of entry sets the length of stay according to the purpose of travel.
Validity
90 days from issue, for a single entry and a single trip. A new passport requires a new eTA.
Fee
US$17Single-entry eTA fee per traveller as stated on the official portal, plus payment and other fees. Faster processing costs extra; applying on arrival requires the expedited fee.
Processing time
Usually within 24 hours, depending on the processing period chosen; an expedited option is processed within 1 hour. Apply up to 3 months ahead; the portal recommends 2 weeks before travel.
Work
The eTA is a travel permission for visitors; it does not give any right to work.
Family
Each traveller needs an individual eTA; families can apply together with the Apply as a Group option, and a parent or guardian completes the form for children under 18.
Where to apply
Online at knatravelform.kn or through the official e-Border St Kitts and Nevis app; on arrival only with the expedited fee.

Who needs an eTA

The portal of the Ministry of National Security states that the eTA is mandatory for all foreign visitors, whether they arrive by air or by sea, and whatever their age. Airline and boat crew with a valid general declaration or flight manifest must also submit one, as must members of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to the Federation. A foreign spouse of a citizen and a foreign child travelling with a citizen parent also need their own eTA.

The exemptions are narrow: citizens of St Kitts and Nevis, citizens of the other OECS member states (including dual citizens holding OECS citizenship) and residents of the Federation, who only file the Immigration and Customs ED Form. Air passengers in transit who do not leave the airport and cruise passengers on day trips are not required to apply, but anyone arriving by boat who stays overnight or leaves by air must have an eTA.

What you need before you start

You need a passport valid for at least six months after the planned arrival date with at least one blank page, a recent passport-style photo or a selfie taken during the application, home address, telephone and email, and your travel details including the arrival flight number. The eTA can only be requested after transport and accommodation are booked.

Accommodation is checked: give a hotel booking, or if you stay with friends or family, an invitation letter from the host and the host's ID where applicable. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Apple Pay or Google Pay; cheques and cash are not accepted.

Fee and processing time

The single-entry eTA costs USD 17 per traveller, plus payment and other fees, and faster service levels cost more. Applications are usually decided within 24 hours depending on the processing period you select, and an expedited application at the airport is processed within one hour. Travellers who forgot to apply can do so on arrival, but must pay the expedited fee.

Applications made through third-party websites are automatically denied, according to the portal. In June 2025 the government warned that sites charging for eTA processing, e-visas or expedited services outside the official channels expose travellers to inflated fees, identity theft and invalid documents.

How the application works

On the portal you photograph or upload the passport page, scan your face, enter the trip and personal details, answer the eligibility questions and pay. No account is needed and an unfinished application can be saved on the same device. An email confirms receipt with a reference number, a second email confirms payment, and a third gives the immigration officer's approval or refusal with the eTA attached as a PDF.

Print the PDF, keep it on your phone or store it in the app: the approval QR code must be shown at check-in and on arrival. If the eTA is refused you cannot travel for the moment; the portal directs refused applicants to write to knatravelform@gov.kn.

  1. Book your flights and accommodation; the eTA cannot be requested without them.
  2. Open knatravelform.kn or the official e-Border app (developer: Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis) and choose Apply Now, or Apply as a Group for a family.
  3. Upload the passport page, take the selfie and enter the trip, contact and accommodation details.
  4. Choose the processing period and pay USD 17 per traveller plus payment fees.
  5. Wait for the decision email, usually within 24 hours, and save the eTA PDF with its QR code.
  6. Travel within 90 days of issue and show the QR code at check-in and on arrival.

At the border and after arrival

The eTA does not guarantee admission. Airlines can still refuse boarding without a passport or boarding pass, and immigration officers decide on admission and length of stay. Travellers using the official channels can use the biometric Fast-Track corridor that has operated since 2 June 2025. The portal states that no vaccinations are currently required for entry.

If your eTA expires while you are in the country you do not need a new one; it is only checked on entry. To stay longer than the period granted at the border, apply for an extension of stay on the eVisa portal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the eTA valid for several trips?

No. It allows a single entry for a single trip, and each new trip needs a new eTA. A used eTA cannot be reused.

Can I apply for the eTA on arrival?

Yes, but you must pay the expedited processing fee. Since airlines check the eTA at check-in, applying before departure is the safer route.

Do I need a new eTA if I renew my passport?

Yes. An eTA is linked to the passport used in the application, so a new or renewed passport requires a new application.

Is the eTA the same as a visa?

No. The portal describes it as a digital permission to travel, not a visa or a tax. Nationals of visa-required countries apply for a visa separately on the eVisa portal.
