How visas for Saint Kitts and Nevis work

Entry to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis now rests on two separate online systems run by the Ministry of National Security. The Electronic Border Management System at knatravelform.kn issues the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) and the combined Immigration and Customs ED Form. The eVisa portal, which the eTA site itself names as the official visa platform, handles visitor, student, school attendance and extension of stay visas.

The eTA is not a visa. It is a single-use permission to travel that every foreign visitor, including babies and children, must hold before starting the journey. Citizens of St Kitts and Nevis, citizens of the other OECS member states and residents of the Federation do not need an eTA, but they still submit the ED Form.

A visa is needed only by nationals of the countries on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of visa-required countries, which in October 2026 counted 67 countries and territories, most of them in Africa and in Central, South and West Asia. Nationals of countries not on that list travel with an eTA alone.

Citizens of the Schengen-applying EU member states benefit from the EU-St Kitts and Nevis short-stay visa waiver agreement, signed in 2009, which allows stays of up to three months in a six-month period without a visa and excludes paid activity. The government has warned since June 2025 that eTAs and ED Forms may only be obtained through the official portal or the e-Border mobile app, and that paid third-party sites are not authorised.

Which visa do I need?

Holiday, family visit or short business trip, nationality not on the visa-required list (for example EU, UK, US, Canadian or Turkish citizens): apply for the eTA online before travelling.

Nationality on the visa-required list: apply for a visitor visa on the eVisa portal; the eTA portal states that every foreign visitor also needs an eTA.

Enrolled at a school or university in the Federation: apply for a student or school attendance visa on the eVisa portal.

Already in the country and wanting to stay longer than the period granted at the border: apply for an extension of stay on the eVisa portal.
