St Kitts and Nevis eVisa for visitors, students and extensions

eVisa: visitor, student, school attendance and extension of stay visas

In short

Nationals of the 67 countries and territories on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list apply online for a visitor visa through the eVisa portal of the Ministry of National Security. The same portal is used by students enrolled in the Federation and by anyone already in the country who needs an extension of stay. Fees depend on the visa and the maximum length of stay and are confirmed by the Visa Office in Basseterre.

Who needs a visa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of visa-required countries covers 33 destinations in Africa (for example Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Libya, Senegal, Somalia and Tunisia), 27 in Asia and the Middle East (including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Northern Cyprus, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Syria, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen), the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Andorra and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Micronesia, Palau and Samoa.

Nationals not on the list do not need a visitor visa but still need an eTA. The eTA portal states that the eTA is mandatory for all foreign visitors, so visa holders should complete it as well. Students enrolled at a school in the Federation and people already in the country who need more time use the eVisa portal whatever their nationality.

The four visa types on the portal

Visitor visa: for foreign nationals from a country requiring a visa, with a passport valid at least six months beyond the intended travel date. Choose single entry for a stay of 30 days or less and multiple entry for 31 days or more, and give the arrival date, expected length of stay and maximum length of stay; the fee charged depends on that last choice.

Student and school attendance visas: for students enrolled in a school in St Kitts and Nevis, with the start and finish dates of the programme or the number of days of the school year. Extension of stay: for people currently in the Federation, giving the original arrival date and the new departure date; it is paid only after approval.

Photo and document rules

The photo must be no more than six months old, in JPEG, PNG or BMP format, between 15 KB and 7,584 KB, and between 480 x 640 and 4,800 x 6,400 pixels, with a plain background, eyes open, mouth closed and no tinted glasses. Use the Check Your Photo tool before applying.

The answers you give decide which supporting documents are requested. Each must be a PDF of no more than 450 KB, with a maximum of 20 files; the passport photo page is scanned or photographed. The Visa Office can ask for documents again, online or in person.

Fees and payment

The eVisa portal does not print a fee table; it refers applicants to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the Visa Office (telephone 1-869-467-1209 extension 1530, evisa@gov.kn). Payment is made online by credit, debit or prepaid Visa, Mastercard or American Express card on a secure third-party payment page, or in some cases at the Visa Office when the status reads pending fee payment.

From application to visa

Check the photo, select Apply For Visa, answer the eligibility questions, complete the form, upload the photo and documents and pay. The application can be saved as an encrypted file on your computer and resumed later, but cannot be changed once paid and submitted. Track it with the nine-digit application number; requests for a new photo, more documents or payment arrive by email.

When the application is approved or refused you receive an email, and an approved visa is attached to it. Only one application of the same type can be open at a time; a new one is possible once the earlier one is issued, refused or cancelled.

  1. Check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list to confirm that your nationality needs a visa.
  2. Test your photo with the Check Your Photo tool on the eVisa portal.
  3. Select Apply For Visa, choose the visa type and entry type, and complete the form.
  4. Upload the photo and the requested PDFs, then pay by card.
  5. Answer any email request for a new photo, documents or payment through the portal.
  6. Receive the approved visa by email and complete your eTA before travelling.

Extending your stay

Any visitor, including those who entered with an eTA only, applies for an extension of stay on the same portal while still in the country, with a passport valid at least six months and a recent photo. The extension fee is requested only after approval, and the extension becomes active once it is paid.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The government's eTA portal names it as the official St Kitts and Nevis eVISA platform, the former address evisa.gov.kn redirects to it, and its footer identifies the Ministry of National Security.

Should I choose single or multiple entry?

The portal's guidance is single entry for a stay of 30 days or less and multiple entry for 31 days or more. The maximum length of stay you select determines the fee.

Can I edit my application after paying?

No. Once paid and submitted it cannot be resumed or changed. The Visa Office may still ask for a new photo or extra documents by email.

Where is the Visa Office?

At Church and Central Streets in Basseterre, St Kitts. It can be reached on 1-869-467-1209 extension 1530 from 8:00 to 16:00 Atlantic time on weekdays, or at evisa@gov.kn.
