Who receives it

The tourist visa may be issued on arrival to short-term travellers who genuinely intend tourism, leisure or social visits, such as seeing friends or family, and not work. US, FSM and Marshall Islands citizens need no visa but still complete the entry form. Schengen citizens benefit from the EU visa-waiver agreement for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and Russian citizens from a 30-day visa-free agreement. Taiwanese nationals may enter visa-free with a passport valid six months, a return ticket and no intention to work, study or reside.

Requirements at the border

Visitors need a passport valid for at least six months on entry, a return ticket unless exempt, a genuine tourism purpose, and enough money for the stay; the Director decides case by case what counts as adequate support, and proof may be a letter of credit or other acceptable evidence. Proof of onward travel may include a bond acceptable to the Director. A ticket used as proof of onward travel may not be sold or exchanged without the Director's written permission. An invitation letter is not required but can help when the airline checks requirements.

Before and on arrival

Submit the Palau Entry Form online no more than 72 hours before departure; one form covers a family or single traveller, answers must be in English, and the QR code received by email is shown at check-in and on arrival. At Palau International Airport you present your passport and documents, the visa is stamped within minutes, and you sign the Palau Pledge in your passport.

  1. Check whether your nationality needs pre-clearance under Executive Order 499; if so, apply by email at least five days before travel.
  2. Submit the Palau Entry Form within 72 hours before departure and keep the QR code.
  3. Present your passport, return ticket and QR code to immigration on arrival.
  4. Sign the Palau Pledge stamped in your passport.
  5. To stay longer, apply for an extension at least seven days before expiry and pay 50 dollars.

Pre-clearance for 12 countries

Under Executive Order 499 of 11 February 2026, effective 30 March 2026, nationals of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cameroon, Ghana, Haiti, Iran, Myanmar, Nigeria, North Korea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sri Lanka and Vanuatu must obtain written pre-clearance before boarding, as must travellers invited by Palauan hosts and diplomats. Email the pre-clearance form, entry form QR code, passport bio-page, non-refundable return ticket, accommodation confirmation, proof of funds and any invitation letter to the BCBP at least five days before travel. Stays are limited to the return date and at most 30 days.

Extending your stay

The tourist visa can be extended for two further 30-day periods. Apply at the Division of Immigration at least seven days before the current visa expires, using the visa extension form, and pay 50 US dollars per extension. The form asks for a detailed reason, proof of funds for the extension period and an onward ticket; to get a full 30-day extension, your departure date must be at least 30 days after the current expiry.

Conditions and revocation

The tourist visa strictly prohibits commercial, employment and business activities. To work you need a labor permit from the Bureau of Labor and Human Resources. If you fail to meet any condition of the visa class, the Director may revoke it under 13 PNC section 1006.
