Permitted activities
The business visa covers business-related activities such as attending meetings or conferences, negotiating contracts and exploring business opportunities. It does not permit employment in Palau. An invitation letter is not mandatory but is useful for business or official visits, and it is worth presenting to the airline, which may verify requirements with immigration.
Requirements
The criteria mirror the tourist visa: a passport valid for six months on entry, a return ticket unless exempt, a legitimate business purpose, sufficient funds, and the QR code from the Palau Entry Form. Every visitor signs the Palau Pledge on arrival. Nationals of the 12 countries in Executive Order 499 and travellers invited by Palauan hosts need written pre-clearance before boarding.
Travellers covered by the pre-clearance protocol email the form, entry QR code, passport bio-page, non-refundable return ticket, accommodation confirmation, proof of funds and any invitation letter to immtravelapproval@bcbp.pw at least five days before travel. Airlines may not board them without written clearance, and entry is limited to the return date and at most 30 days.
Funds, onward ticket and environmental fee
Every visitor must prove enough support for the whole visit and must not become a public charge; proof can be a letter of credit or other evidence the Director accepts, assessed case by case. Proof of onward travel is required before entry and may take the form of a bond acceptable to the Director, and a ticket used as that proof may not be sold or exchanged without the Director's written permission. Accredited diplomats, holders of an exemption letter from the President or the Director, and holders of a valid visa or work permit are exempt from the onward ticket rule. Palau's 100 US dollar Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee is included in the price of every airline ticket to Palau sold since 1 January 2018.
Extensions
Extend at the Division of Immigration at least seven days before expiry; each 30-day extension costs 50 US dollars, and two extensions are possible.
The extension form asks for a detailed reason (simply writing tourism is not accepted), proof of funds for the extension period and an onward ticket showing the departure date. A full 30-day extension is given only if the departure date is at least 30 days after the current expiry.
Changing status
Business visa holders may not engage in employment. Anyone who wants to work in Palau must hold a labor permit from the Bureau of Labor and Human Resources. Breaching the visa conditions allows the Director to revoke the visa under 13 PNC section 1006.
