Who can apply

Citizens of the 192 countries on the portal’s eligibility list can apply for the Tourist/Visit category, sub-category "Individual – less than 3 months". Nationals of the countries on the separate lists can instead use Tourist Visa in Your Inbox or Tourist Visa on Arrival. GCC citizens do not need a visa.

The portal’s FAQ says the online system is meant for nationals applying from their own country. If you apply from a third country, you must upload proof of legal residence there under the document type "Other".

Documents for the application

For a first entry the portal asks for a photograph, the passport and hotel booking details. On the tourist visa-on-arrival route it accepts a sponsor’s invitation letter instead of a hotel booking for individuals, and groups need an invitation letter from a tour operator designated by the Department of Tourist Services.

All documents are uploaded as scans or photos following the portal’s capturing guidelines; the photograph must not exceed 350 KB. Where a Pakistani sponsor is involved, the sponsor may have to confirm the application through biometric verification in the Pak ID mobile app before it is processed.

Fees

The fee is calculated by the portal from the category, sub-category, number of entries and the country you apply from, and is paid online by Visa or Mastercard. Amounts differ markedly between countries of application, so check the calculator for your own country before you apply.

Pakistan’s Consulate General in Frankfurt states that the "Visa Prior to Arrival" for tourism and business is free for citizens of 126 countries. The portal does not publish that list, so treat the amount shown at the payment step as decisive.

Processing time and validity

The portal gives 7–10 working days for a new tourist visa; Afghan and Somali passport holders should expect four weeks. If an application is sent back to you for review, the clock restarts when you resubmit, and an application not resubmitted within seven days is cancelled.

Every Pakistani visa must be used within six months of issue. The stay runs from your arrival date, and the first-entry tourist visa covers a single entry of up to three months.

On arrival and during the trip

Since February 2026 the portal provides a Digital Disembarkation Card that visa holders fill in through the Pak ID mobile app with their flight number, arrival date, length of stay and a contact number in Pakistan. Most nationalities are exempt from police registration; it applies only to the nationalities listed by the portal and to foreigners told to register by immigration.

Mountaineering on listed peaks and trekking in restricted areas need the separate Mountaineering and Trekking visa, arranged with a tour operator authorised by the Department of Tourist Services; a royalty fee is paid after arrival. If your visa expires before you leave, you need an Exit Permit, which is valid for 15 days.

Extending your stay

If you are in Pakistan on a valid visa you can apply on the same portal for an extension as single or multiple entry. The portal asks for your passport, photograph, hotel booking, a sponsor letter from an SECP-registered company, a tour operator or a Pakistani national on e-stamp paper, the sponsor’s CNIC, your entry stamp page and the page of your last tourist visa. Extensions take about two weeks; the calculator shows the extension fee.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check that Tourist/Visit, sub-category Individual – less than 3 months, matches your trip; mountaineering and treks need their own category.
  2. Scan your passport, take a compliant photo and prepare a hotel booking or invitation letter.
  3. Create an account on the Pakistan Online Visa System and fill in the application.
  4. Upload the documents and pay the fee by card; check the total with the fee calculator first.
  5. Watch your e-mail: answer any request sent back for review within seven days.
  6. Download the Visa Grant Notice, verify it on the portal and carry it when you travel.
  7. Before landing, complete the Digital Disembarkation Card in the Pak ID app.
