Who needs it
The visitor's visa is the class for private visits such as tourism or seeing family. The application form asks for the purpose of the visit and the length of visa wanted: up to one, two or three months. Visitors must not carry out any activity for which a business visa can be granted, nor religious activity beyond normal religious observance, and must not behave in a way prejudicial to peace or good order.
Australian and New Zealand applicants
Citizens of Australia and New Zealand must add a sponsorship letter from a Nauruan citizen currently living in Nauru. The letter states the sponsor's name, district of residence, relationship to the applicant and the terms of sponsorship, such as accommodation.
Supporting documents
Part E of the form lists certified copies of the passport identity pages, one recent photo of 45 by 35 mm with your name on the back, a police certificate covering your whole record in every place you lived during the previous 12 months, and a medical fitness certificate confirming that a chest X-ray and blood tests showed no contagious disease or serious abnormality. Documents not in English need certified English translations; certified copies are copies stamped by a Commissioner for Oaths or an equivalent authority abroad.

Fee and payment
Under regulation 16 of the Immigration Regulations 2014 the fee is 50 dollars for up to one month, 150 dollars for up to two months and 250 dollars for up to three months, and it is not refunded. Pay in cash at the Nauru Revenue Office, at a Nauruan mission or consular post if you apply abroad, or by electronic bank transfer, and attach the receipt. An application without proof of payment is not processed unless the applicant belongs to a nationality exempted by regulation 16.
How to lodge a valid application
Use the official form, available from Nauruan diplomatic missions, the Department of Justice and Border Control or the immigration and passport office in Nauru. Complete it in English, answer every question truthfully, attach all documents and the fee receipt, and lodge it with the Immigration Office either through a representative in person or online. An application missing any of these elements is not valid and cannot be processed. You can choose to receive all correspondence by email, which the department recommends because of postal delays.
- Download the Application Form for Visitor Visa from the Department of Justice and Border Control.
- Obtain the police certificate and the medical fitness certificate.
- Pay the fee for 1, 2 or 3 months and keep the receipt.
- Lodge the form, documents and receipt with the Immigration Office online or through a representative in Nauru.
- Travel only after the visa has been granted, and depart before it expires.
During the stay
If you change passports after the visa is granted, notify the Immigration Office in Nauru. Staying past the visa's expiry costs 50 dollars for every extra day; the division issues overstayers a notice giving 7 days to pay and apply for a new visa before prosecution and removal.
Refusals and appeals
False or misleading statements are an offence under the Immigration Act 2014 and can lead to refusal or cancellation. A refused applicant can appeal to the Minister under section 12 and then to the President under section 13; the lodgement fee is 20 dollars for each.
