Online visa application (MHAISS eServices)

In short

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security runs an online visa system at eservices.mhaiss.gov.na. The ministry directs applicants for holiday and tourism visas and for short-term work visas of up to three months to apply there. Travellers from visa-on-arrival countries can also use it to obtain the NAD 1,600 visa before departure.

What can be applied for online

According to the Embassy of Namibia in Berlin, applicants should use the online system for holiday and tourism visas and for short-term employment or work visas of up to three months. Visitors who would otherwise buy a visa on arrival can apply in advance on the same platform. Longer-term permits, such as study permits, employment permits, the investor permit and permanent residence, follow separate procedures.

Visa on arrival and online visa

Since 1 April 2025, nationals of 33 countries listed by the ministry, among them most Western European states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan, pay NAD 1,600 for a visa on arrival at ten ports of entry, including Hosea Kutako International Airport, Walvis Bay International Airport and the Trans-Kalahari, Oshikango, Katima Mulilo and Ngoma border posts. They may also apply online beforehand. Nationals not on the list who need a visa must have it before travelling.

Short-term work visas cost NAD 1,100 for the first application or an extension, up to 90 days a year, and each visa is limited to 90 days. The application adds a motivation letter explaining why a Namibian or a Namibian service provider cannot be hired, proof that the post or service was advertised in local newspapers with the list of unsuccessful shortlisted Namibian candidates, proof of qualifications and the tender or contract; a police clearance and medical and radiological reports are needed only for six-month applications. Any work visa beyond six months must follow the employment permit requirements.

Documents

Prepare the same documents as for an embassy application: a passport valid six months from entry with three blank pages, a compliant photo, a confirmed return ticket, accommodation or safari confirmation, three months of bank statements and travel insurance, all in English.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security lists the core items for all visas: the application form, a certified copy of the passport data page and a motivation letter from the applicant, host or employer. After approval, the applicant submits the passport together with the original receipt of payment.
