Tourist visa (tourist eVisa)

In short

Travellers whose country and passport type are not exempt in SENAMI's waiver table need a tourist visa for a holiday in Mozambique and apply online on SENAMI's eVisa portal. The tourist eVisa is issued for 30, 60 or 90 days, is valid for entry for two months from issue and allows multiple entries; under Law 23/2022 a tourist may stay up to 90 days within 12 months.

Who needs a tourist visa

SENAMI's portal publishes a waiver table listing countries, passport types and purposes that are exempt; some exempt nationals must still register for an ETA at least 48 hours before departure. For some countries the table exempts only diplomatic, service and special passports. Anyone not covered by an exemption needs a tourist eVisa for holidays, sightseeing or visiting friends and family.

Nationals of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia are restricted and cannot use the portal; they must apply at the nearest Mozambican embassy.

Length of stay and validity

The tourist eVisa is for tourism, holidays or vacations of 90 days or less and is issued for 30, 60 or 90 days. It is valid for two months from the issue date, and you can enter at any time in that period; you do not have to arrive on the date given in the application. It is a multiple-entry visa, with the entry pattern based on your itinerary.

Under Article 22 of Law 23/2022, tourist visa holders may stay in Mozambique for 90 days, continuous or interrupted, within 12 months. You may not stay beyond the duration printed on your approved visa.

Applying and arriving

Select the tourist visa on the portal, complete the form, upload the documents and pay online. If something is missing you receive a preliminary rejection email and have five calendar days to upload corrected files; after that the application is rejected automatically and a new one is needed. Once approved, print the preliminary eVisa PDF and present it with your passport at boarding and at the border.

SENAMI recommends printing two copies and keeping the email. Fees are generally not refunded after a refusal. For extensions, the portal directs travellers to contact the Mozambican authorities.

  1. Check the SENAMI waiver table for your passport type.
  2. Create an account on the eVisa portal and choose the tourist visa.
  3. Upload the documents and pay the fee online.
  4. Respond within five days to any preliminary rejection.
  5. Print the approved eVisa and travel within two months.
