Mozambique eVisa (SENAMI online visa)
In short
Mozambique's eVisa is SENAMI's online visa, applied for on evisa.gov.mz before travel. It covers tourism, business, investment and several specialised purposes, takes about five business days after payment and is issued as a preliminary approval PDF that must be shown at boarding and on arrival. Travellers who are not exempt in SENAMI's waiver table use it for short visits.

eVisa, ETA or embassy visa
SENAMI sorts travellers into three groups. Visa-exempt nationals who meet the waiver criteria for purpose, length of stay and passport type do not need a visa, although some of them must register for an ETA at least 48 hours before departure; the ETA is a pre-travel authorisation, not a visa. Anyone who does not meet an exemption applies for an eVisa and pays the eVisa fee. Six restricted nationalities must apply in person at an embassy.
Check the waiver table for your country and passport type before applying: for some countries only diplomatic, service or special passports are exempt, and ordinary passport holders are in the eVisa group. Dual nationals may apply with whichever passport they will travel on, if it is eligible.
eVisa categories
The portal offers tourist and business eVisas for up to 90 days (issued for 30, 60 or 90 days), an investment eVisa for projects worth at least USD 500,000 (issued for 90, 180, 365 or 730 days), and separate categories for sports and culture, crew, humanitarian assistance, business in oil and gas, and work in oil and gas. Each category has its own document list.
How the application works
Register on the VFS-operated application site linked from evisa.gov.mz, choose the category, upload scans in JPEG, PDF or PNG, and pay online by card or bank transfer. Standard processing is about five business days. Applications can be tracked by reference number, with the statuses under review, approved or rejected.
If documents are missing or wrong, a preliminary rejection email lists the problems and you have five calendar days to upload corrections. An approved eVisa cannot be amended; a change of plans means a new application.
- Confirm on evisa.gov.mz that you need an eVisa rather than an ETA.
- Pick the category that matches your purpose.
- Upload documents and pay online.
- Track the application and fix any preliminary rejection within five days.
- Print the approval and present it on arrival.
New platform, timing and fees
SENAMI moved the eVisa service to a new platform on 11 February 2026 and switched the old one off. Anyone who applied on the previous system and is still waiting for a decision should not file again; updates are sent to the email address used in the original application.
Each category page advises applying three to five days before departure so that there is time for processing and for correcting documents. Approval letters sometimes land in spam or junk folders, so check those before assuming a delay. The fee covers the authorities' processing work and is generally not returned when an application is refused or when the same traveller pays for several applications.
At the border
The eVisa is a preliminary visa that lets you present yourself at the border post; immigration checks the approval letter on arrival. Carry the printed PDF and your passport, and keep a copy on your phone. The validity of use starts on the date you receive the email and is shown on the document.

Frequently asked questions
Who runs evisa.gov.mz?
Mozambique's National Migration Service (SENAMI), with applications processed through a VFS Global platform.
Can I amend an eVisa?
No. You must apply for a new one.
What if I lose the eVisa?
Reprint it from the portal or your email.
Which nationalities cannot use the portal?
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia; they apply at an embassy.
Is the eVisa fee refunded if I am refused?
Generally not. SENAMI states that the fee pays for the processing already carried out, so it is not returned after a refusal or for duplicate applications.
I applied on the old portal. Should I apply again?
No. If you applied before the new platform opened on 11 February 2026 and have no decision yet, wait for the email update instead of submitting a new application.
