How visas for Kyrgyzstan work

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic runs the e-Visa portal, which also explains, for each passport, whether a visa is needed, how long a visa-free stay lasts and which visa options are open. Many passports are visa-free for short stays; residents of Hong Kong and Macao and citizens of the Maldives, for example, get 30 days. Holders of other passports may need a visa, which many can obtain online; an e-visa gives the same right of entry as a sticker visa in the passport.

Kyrgyz visas are organised by letter type: TS for tourism up to 30 days, B for business stays up to 90 days, J ("Sapar") for visits at the request of state bodies, S for study, RL for visiting relatives or family reunification, I for investors, DN for digital nomads, SW1 and SW2 special work visas, FF for family members of foreign residents, TR for transit and L for leaving after an overstay. Foreign workers receive a Unified Permit, an electronic document that combines the work visa, the permit to attract foreign labour and the work permit.

Foreigners who stay must register at their place of stay within five working days of entry unless their nationality is exempt for a stated period. Visas can be refused, and fees are not refunded.
