Honduras tourist visa and visa-free entry

Visitor entry and extension of stay (Prórroga de estadía)

In short

Honduras applies the visa classification shared by El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua (CA-4): nationals in Category A are exempt from visa, and a remarks column lists the countries Honduras treats differently. Visitors receive a period of stay on entry. Any non-resident foreigner can ask the National Migration Institute (INM) to extend it until a total of 120 days in the CA-4 region is reached, paying the equivalent of USD 20 for each additional month. After 120 days you must change to a migration category or leave the region.

Who needs a visa

The joint CA-4 classification of visa exemption and requirement, dated 23 January 2019 and published by El Salvador's migration authority on behalf of the four countries, sorts nationalities and passport types into categories. Category A (exempt from visa) includes, among others, Türkiye for ordinary, diplomatic, official and service passports. Its remarks column lists the countries that Honduras treats differently from its CA-4 partners, so check both your category and any remark for Honduras.

The INM's own entry-requirements page could not be retrieved, so check with a Honduran consulate if your situation is unusual, for example if you travel on a passport other than an ordinary one.

Travelling around the CA-4 region

Because the 120-day limit is counted across Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua together, plan a regional trip with that single allowance in mind. Time spent in any of the four countries reduces what remains for Honduras.

After 120 days

Once you have completed 120 days in Honduras or the CA-4 region, you can apply through a lawyer to the INM for a special stay permit (Permiso Especial de Permanencia) in a migration category such as work or study, apply through a lawyer to the Secretariat of Human Rights, Justice, Governance and Decentralisation for residence, or leave the CA-4 region.

Extending your stay

An extension (prórroga de estadía) is the INM's authorisation to lengthen the stay granted to a non-resident on entry. By law any non-resident foreigner can request it until completing 120 days in the territory of the CA-4 countries (Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua). Go to any INM internal control office with the extension request and a valid passport, and pay a General Treasury of the Republic (TGR) receipt for the equivalent in lempiras of USD 20 for each month extended. The extension is printed in the passport.

Apply before your time expires: overstaying leads to fines and is a ground for deportation.
