Honduras spouse visa (family of Hondurans)
Residence for spouses and relatives of Hondurans
In short
Spouses of Honduran citizens by birth, and their relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity (the INM names grandparents, parents and siblings), can apply for residence in Honduras. They prove the marriage or kinship, and the Honduran declares responsibility for their subsistence. The application is filed through a lawyer with the Secretariat of Human Rights, Justice, Governance and Decentralisation, together with the general residence requirements, and documents from abroad must be legalised and officially translated.

Key facts
- Where to apply
- Secretariat of Human Rights, Justice, Governance and Decentralisation, through a lawyer
Who qualifies
The INM lists two family routes. Foreigners who are spouses, grandparents, parents or siblings of a Honduran by birth, and more broadly the spouse and relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity of a Honduran by birth, prove the marriage or kinship, and the Honduran declares responsibility for their subsistence.
Separately, the spouse, minor children, dependent adult children and parents of a foreigner who already holds any migration status can apply as dependants, proving the marriage or economic dependency, with the foreign resident declaring responsibility for their subsistence.
General requirements for residence
Residence applications go to the Secretariat of State for Human Rights, Justice, Governance and Decentralisation through a legal representative (apoderado legal), with the required stamps and full contact details for the lawyer and the applicant. The file includes the power of attorney, a recent 6 x 5 cm photo, a certificate of migration movements from the National Migration Institute (INM), an authenticated criminal record certificate from the country of origin and of last residence, a certificate from the criminal investigation directorate that there are no complaints against you, a medical certificate no older than six months and an authenticated copy of the passport.
If you started the residence procedure abroad through a Honduran embassy or consulate, add the original entry application authorised by the consul. Documents in a language other than Spanish must be officially translated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and legalised or apostilled where applicable.

Once the resolution is issued, the foreigner registers in the National Register of Foreigners and obtains the resident card.

Proving the relationship
Bring the marriage certificate or birth certificates that establish the link with the Honduran, legalised or apostilled and officially translated if issued abroad, and the Honduran's declaration taking responsibility for your subsistence. A marriage celebrated abroad is proved with the civil registry certificate of the country where it took place, with an apostille or legalisation and an official Spanish translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
