How visas for Guyana work

Guyana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the list of countries whose nationals do not need a visa (updated 17 July 2025). It covers CARICOM nationals and countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Australia and Japan; for some countries, among them China and India, only diplomatic, official or service passports are exempt. Travellers who need a visa can apply online through the Ministry of Home Affairs' Immigration Support Services (ISS) e-services portal or, if they are unable to apply at a Guyanese mission, receive a visa on arrival when the published criteria are met.

The Ministry's fee advisory sets US$25 for a one-month visitor visa, with up to two one-month extensions at US$25 each; US$140 for a business visa valid five years; and US$140 for employment and student visas valid three years, each renewable for the same fee. For employment and study, the employer or the accredited institution sends the required details to the Ministry of Home Affairs before the traveller arrives.

This guide covers visitor, business, employment and student visas. Residence, family and asylum procedures are not covered, because the official pages reviewed do not describe them.
