How visas for Grenada work
Grenada sorts nationalities into three groups, set out in the official list published by its embassy in Washington (updated April 2024) and its High Commission in London. Visitors from the No Visa Required group arrive with a valid passport; the Prior to Arrival group must obtain a visa from a Grenada consulate or mission before travelling; the Port of Entry group first obtains a pre-clearance letter from a mission and then receives the visa on arrival.
EU citizens, Britons, Americans, Canadians and most of the Caribbean, as well as China (for up to 30 days), India, Russia, Ukraine and the UAE, are in the visa-free group. The Prior to Arrival group, whose nationals need a visa issued before the trip, includes countries such as Pakistan, Nigeria, Colombia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Turkey. Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan use the pre-clearance route.
Visitors are admitted for set periods such as 14, 30, 60 or 90 days or six months. Anyone who wants to stay longer, or to work, study or settle, must obtain the appropriate permission in Grenada. Work requires a work permit from the Ministry of Labour, granted before the worker arrives, and permanent residence is applied for through the Office of the Prime Minister.
Citizens of EU states that fully apply the Schengen rules also benefit from the EU-Grenada short-stay visa waiver agreement, which allows stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period and does not cover paid activity.
Which visa do I need?
Holiday, family visit or short business trip from a No Visa Required country: travel with a passport valid six months beyond departure.
Same purpose but your nationality is in the Prior to Arrival group (for example Pakistan, Nigeria, Colombia, the Philippines or Turkey): apply for a single- or multiple-entry visa at a Grenada mission at least six weeks ahead.
Nationality in the Port of Entry group: request a pre-clearance letter from a mission, then pay for the visa on arrival.
Taking up a job: your employer applies for a work permit at the Ministry of Labour before you travel. Settling long term: apply for permanent residence.
