Jubilado: retirees with a foreign pension
The jubilado visa is for foreigners whose income comes from a pension paid by a public or private institution abroad. You need the official pension document from the competent foreign body certifying a monthly pension equal to or above three Salarios Básicos Unificados (SBU), apostilled in Hague Convention countries or legalised elsewhere. Documents not in Spanish need a translation.
General documents
Both visas require a recent colour JPG photo (5 x 5 cm, white background), a passport valid for at least six months, an original criminal record certificate from your country of origin or of residence in the last five years (over 18, translated, apostilled or legalised and no older than 180 days at your last entry), proof of lawful means of support under Ministerial Agreement 70 of 2024, the visa application form and any other document requested.

The rentista visa is for people with lawful personal income, from abroad or from Ecuador, equal to or above three SBU a month. Accepted evidence includes lease contracts, investment certificates and similar documents, apostilled or legalised. For both visas, each dependant requires an extra USD 250 a month, and you need health insurance, Ecuadorian or foreign, valid for the whole visa period; a foreign policy must state coverage in Ecuador. The SBU is updated each year, so check its current value.
