Comoros visa on arrival: fees, documents and validity

Entry visa obtained on arrival (visa d’entrée)

In short

Visitors to the Comoros obtain their entry visa on arrival from the Air and Border Police at Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport in Moroni. The government’s eRegulations portal states that the visa is valid 45 days and renewable, and lists a landing card, a return ticket, a passport, proof of resources and the address where you will stay. The Comoros mission to the UN lists EUR 60 for 45 days, EUR 250 for one year and EUR 500 for ten years.

How the visa works

The Comoros issues entry visas at the border rather than through an online system. On the government’s eRegulations portal, the procedure is handled at Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport in Moroni-Hahaya by the Air and Border Police (PAF). The legal basis cited is Law No. 88-025 of 29 December 1988 on the conditions of entry and stay of foreigners, together with the order setting the duties charged on visas and passports. The Permanent Mission of the Comoros to the United Nations likewise tells visitors that the visa is obtained on the spot.

Documents at the border

The eRegulations procedure lists six requirements, all originals: the landing card, a return ticket, a valid passport, a proof of resources such as a bank statement showing that your means cover the stay, the address of your destination (hotel or other accommodation) and payment in cash. The proof of resources is there to show that the money you have can cover your stay.

Required documents

Identity

  • Valid passport (original)

Travel

  • Landing card (fiche de débarquement)
  • Return ticket
  • Address of your hotel or other accommodation

Money

  • Proof of resources, such as a bank statement

Fees and payment

Two official sources give different amounts. The UN mission publishes EUR 60 for a 45-day visa, EUR 250 for one year and EUR 500 for ten years, on an undated page. The eRegulations portal shows KMF 15,000 for the entry visa, based on the order on visa and passport duties numbered 08-048, and states that travellers without Comorian francs can pay the equivalent in euros or US dollars; the requirement list names Comorian francs or euros in cash. Carry cash and confirm the current amount with a Comorian mission before departure.

Time at the airport

eRegulations estimates 5 to 15 minutes in line and 5 to 10 minutes at the counter, with no waiting time until the next step. The unit’s hours are not fixed because they depend on flight times. Visas are normally biometric; if computers fail, a manual visa is issued instead.

Longer stays

The 45-day visa is renewable. The UN mission also lists one-year and ten-year visas, and the Ministry of the Interior’s immigration service issues a renewable one-year long-stay visa, for example to foreign investors, at KMF 125,000.

Where to get confirmation

The PAF unit at the airport can be reached on +269 773 93 29 and aimpsi@comorestelecom.com as listed by eRegulations. The UN mission answers visa questions at comoros@un.int, and Comorian embassies abroad can confirm the current fee and conditions for your nationality before you travel.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Confirm the current fee and conditions with a Comorian embassy or the UN mission.
  2. Travel with a return ticket, proof of funds, your accommodation address and cash.
  3. Fill in the landing card on arrival at Moroni airport.
  4. Present the documents to the Air and Border Police and pay the fee.
  5. Receive the biometric visa and keep within its 45 days or arrange a renewal.
