Who qualifies
VITEM XIV based on the transfer of retirement income may be granted to retired migrants or to beneficiaries of a survivor's pension who prove a monthly transfer to Brazil of USD 2,000 or more. If the pension alone is lower, you can add proof of other regular income sources to reach the amount.
Other documents
The list also includes the online application form (no printable version), a valid passport, a criminal record certificate (valid 3 months; certificates from every country of residence in the last 12 months, apostilled), a full birth certificate, whose data must match those later registered with the Federal Police, a flight itinerary showing entry into Brazil and health insurance valid in Brazil.
If you lived in several countries in the last 12 months, bring a criminal record from each, apostilled by the issuing country and translated by a sworn translator where needed; these are valid for three months. The passport needs at least two blank pages (pages reserved for amendments do not count), and the photo is 3x4 cm on a white background. The birth certificate is not mandatory and does not block the visa, but the consulate strongly recommends it; without a full certificate, another official document with both parents' full names is accepted.

Proving the income
Provide proof of retirement and of the capacity to transfer at least USD 2,000 a month to Brazil: consulates require an official letter from your bank, signed by your account manager, stating that the bank can transfer that amount, or its equivalent in another currency, every month to your Brazilian bank account. Survivor's pension recipients show proof of receiving at least USD 2,000 a month.
After arrival
Register with the Federal Police after entering Brazil, bringing the birth certificate; inconsistent data between the visa application and the birth certificate prevents completion of the registration, which is why the consulate checks it at the visa stage.
Since 1 September 2026 the visa is issued electronically and e-mailed to you once authorised. At the Federal Police you present its online form, your passport, the original visa form and, where applicable, the CRNM card fee of R$ 204.77 (code 140120).
How to apply, step by step
- Check that your pension (plus any regular income) reaches USD 2,000 a month.
- Ask your bank for the signed transfer letter.
- Obtain your criminal record certificates, a full birth certificate and Brazil-valid health insurance.
- Create the VITEM XIV request in SCI, upload documents and pay the consular fee.
- After arrival, register with the Federal Police.

The VITEM XIV for retirees is valid for one year.
