Italy: visa decisions in Zimbabwe

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 1,0461,035101.0% 70.4%
2024 1,2441,219211.7% 60.2%
2025 1,7351,702331.9% 55.4%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Zimbabwe (Harare) received 1,735 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,702. 1.9% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 1.7%. Applications rose by 39% compared with 2024 (1,244).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.4% of the applications lodged in Zimbabwe that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Zimbabwe.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Zimbabwe, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
