In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) received 50,756 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 46,490. 8.3% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 10.6%: the rate fell by 2.2 points. Applications rose by 15% compared with 2024 (43,999).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 9.4% of the applications lodged in Vietnam that year, from 3.6% at the consulates of Poland to 20.8% at those of Finland. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the most applied-for Schengen state in Vietnam.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Vietnam, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
