France: visa decisions in Uruguay
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 57 | 52 | 3 | 5.5% | 3.8% |
| 2024 | 56 | 55 | 1 | 1.8% | 3.6% |
| 2025 | 56 | 46 | 4 | 8.0% | 15.2% |
In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in Uruguay (Montevideo) received 56 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 46. 8.0% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 1.8%: the rate rose by 6.2 points, a sharp increase. The number of applications was almost unchanged (56 in 2024).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 7.8% of the applications lodged in Uruguay that year. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the 2nd most applied-for Schengen state in Uruguay.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uruguay, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
