Denmark: visa decisions in the United States

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 5,3494,6322785.7% 18.6%
2024 5,5484,4714829.7% 24.2%
2025 4,7583,68464414.9% 30.9%

In 2025, Denmark’s embassy and consulates in the United States (New York) received 4,758 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 3,684. The refusal rate was 14.9%. The refusal rate rose by 5.1 points from 9.7% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 14% compared with 2024 (5,548).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.9% of the applications lodged in the United States that year, from 0.4% at the consulates of Greece to 20.5% at those of Sweden. Denmark’s consulates worldwide refused 21.9%. Denmark was the 11th most applied-for Schengen state in the United States.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in the United States, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
