Belgium: visa decisions in Uganda

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 1,31076055042.0% 17.2%
2024 1,42782158241.5% 11.0%
2025 1,51588359140.1% 16.8%

In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in Uganda (Kampala) received 1,515 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 883. The refusal rate was 40.1%. That is barely different from 2024 (41.5%). Applications rose by 6% compared with 2024 (1,427).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 36.8% of the applications lodged in Uganda that year, from 15.1% at the consulates of Italy to 59.0% at those of the Netherlands. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Uganda.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uganda, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
