2024 117,432106,19311,1539.5% 67.6%
2025 79,47067,73611,73414.8% 67.1%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Turkey (Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara) received 79,470 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 67,736. The refusal rate was 14.8%. The refusal rate rose by 5.3 points from 9.5% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 32% compared with 2024 (117,432).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 14.6% of the applications lodged in Turkey that year, from 3.5% at the consulates of Portugal to 35.5% at those of Lithuania. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 6th most applied-for Schengen state in Turkey.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Turkey, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
