Austria: visa decisions in Tunisia

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 2,7161,5441,16743.0% 35.3%
2024 2,6081,61397837.5% 32.3%
2025 2,5861,89058723.5% 29.7%

In 2025, Austria’s embassy and consulates in Tunisia (Tunis) received 2,586 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,890. The refusal rate was 23.5%. The refusal rate fell by 14.0 points from 37.5% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. The number of applications was almost unchanged (2,608 in 2024).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 19.6% of the applications lodged in Tunisia that year, from 15.4% at the consulates of France to 46.3% at those of the Czech Republic. Austria’s consulates worldwide refused 11.9%. Austria was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in Tunisia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Tunisia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
