Italy: visa decisions in Thailand
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 30,757 | 29,551 | 1,205 | 3.9% | 54.0% |
| 2024 | 33,971 | 32,663 | 1,308 | 3.9% | 95.0% |
| 2025 | 35,642 | 34,416 | 1,226 | 3.4% | 97.2% |
In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Thailand (Bangkok) received 35,642 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 34,416. The refusal rate was 3.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (3.9%). Applications rose by 5% compared with 2024 (33,971).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.9% of the applications lodged in Thailand that year, from 2.0% at the consulates of Romania to 28.7% at those of Poland. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 2nd most applied-for Schengen state in Thailand.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Thailand, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
