Sweden: visa decisions in South Korea

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 22720873.3% 10.6%
2024 394659.8% 23.9%

In 2024, Sweden’s embassy and consulates in South Korea (Seoul) received 39 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 46. The refusal rate was 9.8%. The refusal rate rose by 6.5 points from 3.3% in 2023, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 83% compared with 2023 (227).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 11.0% of the applications lodged in South Korea that year, from 3.1% at the consulates of Italy to 12.8% at those of France. Sweden’s consulates worldwide refused 24.4%. Sweden was the 15th most applied-for Schengen state in South Korea.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in South Korea, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
