Italy: visa decisions in Panama
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 73 | 65 | 8 | 11.0% | 95.4% |
| 2024 | 62 | 50 | 10 | 16.1% | 90.0% |
| 2025 | 73 | 68 | 5 | 6.8% | 60.3% |
In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Panama (Panama City) received 73 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 68. 6.8% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 16.1%: the rate fell by 9.3 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 18% compared with 2024 (62).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 6.4% of the applications lodged in Panama that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Panama.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Panama, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
