Austria: visa decisions in Pakistan

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 3,0067692,21173.6% 41.6%
2024 3,6045803,01183.5% 28.1%
2025 2,5436361,75873.3% 12.9%

In 2025, Austria’s embassy and consulates in Pakistan (Islamabad) received 2,543 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 636. 73.3% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 83.5%: the rate fell by 10.2 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 29% compared with 2024 (3,604).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 45.9% of the applications lodged in Pakistan that year, from 24.2% at the consulates of Germany to 78.7% at those of Denmark. Austria’s consulates worldwide refused 11.9%. Austria was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in Pakistan.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Pakistan, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
