Greece: visa decisions in Nigeria
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,663 | 1,437 | 203 | 12.4% | 35.3% |
| 2024 | 435 | 161 | 269 | 62.6% | 29.8% |
| 2025 | 462 | 279 | 161 | 36.5% | 38.4% |
In 2025, Greece’s embassy and consulates in Nigeria (Abuja) received 462 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 279. 36.5% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 62.6%: the rate fell by 26.1 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 6% compared with 2024 (435).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 47.9% of the applications lodged in Nigeria that year, from 27.2% at the consulates of Switzerland to 66.1% at those of Bulgaria. Greece’s consulates worldwide refused 14.5%. Greece was the 15th most applied-for Schengen state in Nigeria.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Nigeria, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
