Germany: visa decisions in New Zealand

2023 49848771.4% 99.4%
2024 525493275.2% 98.8%
2025 497437459.3% 100.0%

In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in New Zealand (Wellington) received 497 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 437. The refusal rate was 9.3%. The refusal rate rose by 4.1 points from 5.2% in 2024. Applications fell by 5% compared with 2024 (525).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.6% of the applications lodged in New Zealand that year, from 0.5% at the consulates of France to 9.0% at those of the Netherlands. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in New Zealand.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in New Zealand, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
