In fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025) the United States issued 8,139 nonimmigrant visas to citizens of Myanmar, the 91st highest number of the 206 nationalities listed. Transit and crew visas (C and D) made up 42%, visitor visas 30% and student visas 21%. That is 41% fewer than in fiscal year 2024 (13,874).
From October 2025 to February 2026, citizens of Myanmar received 58, 99% fewer than in the same months a year earlier.
For visitor visas (B1/B2) the State Department reports an adjusted refusal rate of 64.2% for citizens of Myanmar in fiscal year 2025 (fiscal year 2024: 62.6%). The adjusted rate counts a refusal that was later overcome, for example with further documents, as an issuance. A rate below 3% is one of the conditions for a country to join the Visa Waiver Program.
