Italy: visa decisions in Mongolia

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 2,0291,76226713.2% 34.4%
2024 2,1802,0601165.3% 36.9%
2025 2,1632,0311326.1% 36.5%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar) received 2,163 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 2,031. 6.1% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 5.3%. The number of applications was almost unchanged (2,180 in 2024).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 14.9% of the applications lodged in Mongolia that year, from 4.6% at the consulates of Hungary to 32.8% at those of the Czech Republic. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Mongolia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Mongolia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
