Spain: visa decisions in Malaysia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 423 | 421 | 2 | 0.5% | 43.5% |
| 2024 | 618 | 605 | 2 | 0.3% | 35.0% |
| 2025 | 626 | 617 | 5 | 0.8% | 41.7% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 626 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 617. 0.8% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 0.3%. The number of applications was almost unchanged (618 in 2024).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the 6th most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
