Hungary: visa decisions in Malaysia

2023 88523640.9% 19.2%
2024 91573437.4% 35.1%
2025 130864433.8% 29.1%

In 2025, Hungary’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 130 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 86. The refusal rate was 33.8%. The refusal rate fell by 3.5 points from 37.4% in 2024. Applications rose by 43% compared with 2024 (91).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. Hungary’s consulates worldwide refused 13.0%. Hungary was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
