In fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025) the United States issued 14,946 nonimmigrant visas to citizens of Ireland, the 64th highest number of the 206 nationalities listed. Exchange visitor visas (J) made up 47%, work and treaty visas 24% and visitor visas 15%. That is 6% fewer than in fiscal year 2024 (15,932).
From October 2025 to February 2026, citizens of Ireland received 3,969, 5% fewer than in the same months a year earlier.
For visitor visas (B1/B2) the State Department reports an adjusted refusal rate of 25.1% for citizens of Ireland in fiscal year 2025 (fiscal year 2024: 22.2%). The adjusted rate counts a refusal that was later overcome, for example with further documents, as an issuance. A rate below 3% is one of the conditions for a country to join the Visa Waiver Program.
These figures count visas issued to citizens of Ireland anywhere in the world, not only at the US missions in Ireland.
