Austria: visa decisions in Colombia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 38 | 35 | 3 | 7.9% | 91.4% |
| 2024 | 49 | 29 | 19 | 38.8% | 79.3% |
| 2025 | 46 | 35 | 7 | 16.3% | 77.1% |
In 2025, Austria’s embassy and consulates in Colombia (Bogotá) received 46 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 35. The refusal rate was 16.3%. The refusal rate fell by 22.5 points from 38.8% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 6% compared with 2024 (49).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 10.0% of the applications lodged in Colombia that year. Austria’s consulates worldwide refused 11.9%. Austria was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Colombia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Colombia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
