Sweden: visa decisions in China
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 29,783 | 26,326 | 2,946 | 10.1% | 28.0% |
| 2024 | 45,390 | 42,606 | 2,894 | 6.4% | 12.7% |
| 2025 | 50,590 | 47,911 | 2,388 | 4.7% | 9.1% |
In 2025, Sweden’s embassy and consulates in China (Beijing and Shanghai) received 50,590 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 47,911. The refusal rate was 4.7%. The refusal rate fell by 1.6 points from 6.4% in 2024. Applications rose by 11% compared with 2024 (45,390).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.0% of the applications lodged in China that year, from 1.3% at the consulates of Luxembourg to 19.3% at those of Malta. Sweden’s consulates worldwide refused 23.1%. Sweden was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in China.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in China, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
