Slovakia: visa decisions in China

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 895819465.3% 4.2%
2024 1,6431,37619712.4% 9.7%
2025 2,3262,149793.5% 16.3%

In 2025, Slovakia’s embassy and consulates in China (Shanghai and Beijing) received 2,326 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 2,149. The refusal rate was 3.5%. The refusal rate fell by 8.9 points from 12.4% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 42% compared with 2024 (1,643).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 4.0% of the applications lodged in China that year, from 1.3% at the consulates of Luxembourg to 19.3% at those of Malta. Slovakia’s consulates worldwide refused 9.6%. Slovakia was the 24th most applied-for Schengen state in China.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in China, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
