Italy: visa decisions in Chile
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 371 | 369 | 2 | 0.5% | 98.1% |
| 2024 | 368 | 312 | 56 | 15.2% | 96.5% |
| 2025 | 309 | 237 | 72 | 23.3% | 99.6% |
In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Chile (Santiago) received 309 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 237. 23.3% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 15.2%: the rate rose by 8.1 points, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 16% compared with 2024 (368).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 27.2% of the applications lodged in Chile that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Chile.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Chile, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
