2025 4043404511.7% 92.6%

In 2025, Croatia’s embassy and consulates in Canada (Mississauga and Ottawa) received 404 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 340. 11.7% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 6.9%: the rate rose by 4.7 points. Applications rose by 17% compared with 2024 (344).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 9.0% of the applications lodged in Canada that year, from 1.6% at the consulates of Greece to 23.7% at those of Portugal. Croatia’s consulates worldwide refused 18.5%. Croatia was the 14th most applied-for Schengen state in Canada.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Canada, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
