Greece: visa decisions in Brazil
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 16 | 15 | 0 | – | – |
| 2024 | 35 | 33 | 2 | 5.7% | 100.0% |
| 2025 | 29 | 18 | 11 | 37.9% | – |
In 2025, Greece’s embassy and consulates in Brazil (Sao Paulo) received 29 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 18. The refusal rate was 37.9%. The refusal rate rose by 32.2 points from 5.7% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 17% compared with 2024 (35).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 23.6% of the applications lodged in Brazil that year, from 16.4% at the consulates of France to 57.0% at those of Portugal. Greece’s consulates worldwide refused 14.5%. Greece was the 11th most applied-for Schengen state in Brazil.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Brazil, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
